Mantras are powerful mystical, spiritual connotations used in Hindu and Buddhist prayers and are beautiful tools for meditation. Every being in the universe has an energy that it vibrates with, and so does the un-manifested universe.
To bring us closer and connect to the source, mantras are believed to be the sound form of the un-manifested reality, having the power to connect to the energy it represents.

Mantra japa or the recitation of mantras was a practice of Vedic sages, which would ultimately lead to moksha or liberation. Mantra Japa which means repetition of mantra, is an important part of dhyana or meditation.

Mantras are repeated in cycles of auspicious numbers (in multiples of three), the most popular being 108. Hindu malabeads have 108 beads and a guru bead . The devotee performing japa using his/her fingers counts each bead as he/she repeats the chosen mantra. Having reached 108 repetitions, the devotee may turn the japamala around without crossing the guru bead and repeat. As the repititions of mantras go on, the vibrations start to sync with the energy of the self and the mind connects to the source.
Attaining focus, guiding your energy on the chosen deity of the mantra , you are basically connecting to the energy of the spiritual essence. The vibrations and the sound awaken the Kundalini that resides in the root chakra and it starts its journey upwards through the Chakras which are the centers of energy.
