Vintage Carved Wood Door Krishna Kaliya Mardan Panel Indian Temple Wall Art 83x36

This vintage hand-carved wood door shows Lord Krishna dancing on the hood of the great serpent Kaliya, one of the most loved stories in Indian tradition. Krishna is carved in deep relief with a blue complexion, a golden crown, and a flute held in one hand, standing gracefully on a lotus above the coiled, multi-hooded serpent. Two attendant figures kneel on either side, and a border of carved leaves and scrolling motifs frames the whole scene. The colors are layered in soft blues, greens, coral, and gold over a warm cream background, and the worn, aged finish gives it the look of a true temple door. Because each piece is carved and painted by hand, no two are exactly alike.

The Kaliya Mardan story is often seen as a symbol of victory over fear and ego, so this makes a meaningful focal point for an entryway, a home temple, a meditation room, or a living room. Use it as a sliding barn door, hang it as a large sculptural wall panel, lean it behind a console or altar, or turn it into a striking headboard. The rich carving and color suit bohemian, Indian, eclectic, and maximalist interiors, and it also looks wonderful in a yoga studio, spa, boutique, or restaurant.
